Twenty-One Hundred Hours and Counting

Wow, my trip is almost here! Less than one month ago I was planning to be in DC over New Year's, now I'm headed to Africa! While I do find it really cool and a little random, most people I talk to are amazed that I'm going. Um, people, you have the power just like me to live a little and take some risks. I have so many friends who like to think they are adventurous, but rarely do I see them take a big step or act spontaneous in this way. Even some of my free-spirit friends don't do it. I have to admit that Michelle Farber is partly to thank for this trip. She had spent about a year and half in Cape Town going to graduate school. She raved about South Africa. When she told me she booked a random trip to Central America, I thought why don't I take a little vacation. Thanks Michelle.

I leave tomorrow for my big adventure. Yesterday when Ranga was helping me with my blackberry at work I mentioned I was headed to South Africa. Low and behold, I found out his parents are now living down there after fleeing Zimbabwe. I told him about the cheap fares. Seven hours later he texted me that he's meeting me down in Cape Town--so crazy. It will be nice that a somewhat local that I'm friends with will be down there, not just one of Michelle's friends or some travel friends I have picked up. Now all he has to do is get his visa situation straightened out.

So in 21 hours I'll be leaving DCA and heading to ATL then to Johannesburg via Dakar and then to Durban. Twenty-five hours of travel! I'm going to be so exhausted, cranky, hungry, smelly and irritated when I get off that plane. However, I know the trip will be worth it. Right after I go through customs in J'Burg I want to stop at Nando's for some chicken before boarding my flight to Durban. Something tells me I will be cutting it very short going through customs and trying to make it on another flight 70 minutes later.

Random things: Today I had some moments in the bathroom. First, this morning I was in my office restroom and stared down at my brown Mary Jane's. I noticed there was some yellow gunk on my right shoe. I immediately knew it was egg yolk from the omelet I made this morning. Pretty gross. This afternoon I was in that same bathroom doing my thing. There was nothing to read in there so I began to study the toilet paper roll's design. The imprints looked like donors you get in Germany. Hummm.

Things I need to do: PACK!!!!!! Also, I think I'm going to budge and get some pants from Lulu Lemon to wear on the plane. They're stylish things. I'm so bloated right now there's not way I can wear jeans for 25 hours.
